Grocery Haul #12
We are in full-blown summer mode here. Christmas is over, the kids are home, and we’re relaxing and not doing much of anything. Everyone needs to slow down and take a break right now. That also means that we’re living on a lot of leftovers from Christmas and a fair amount of take out. Today I had to head out to the grocery store to stock up on a few things, and I found myself next to a large New World on Lunn Avenue. I decided to do my shopping there to see how it was. My regular New World was recently purchased, and the new owner has made some changes that I’m not thrilled with. Plus, there’s been a lot of chatter on our community Facebook group about people getting pickpocketed while shopping! I find that very shocking because New Zealand is typically quite safe, and I’ve never felt uneasy at the local supermarket.
So in today’s haul, we have:
Brioche hamburger buns - 6 pack - $3.99
New Zealand premium mince - 4.82kg @ $17.50/kg -$8.63
Cut watermelon - $6.08
Paneton pain au chocolat - 6 pack - $7.99 (on sale)
Anchor blue organic milk, 2L - $6.49 (I purchased 3 for a total of $19.47)
Garlic prawn skewers - $1.10 each x 8 - $8.80
Providore tomato & peppers pasta sauce, 400g - $5.69
Mexicano corn chips, 170g - $1.99
White mushrooms - .137kg @ $12.99/kg - $1.78
Brown onions - .416kg @ $2.19/kg - $0.91
Courgettes (aka Zucchini) - .266kg @ $6.99/kg - $1.86
Ghiotti fusilli pasta, 500g - $3.29
New Zealand Angus pure beef premium mince - .456kg @ $20/kg - $9.92 (Yes. I have two different types of ground beef. We’re doing a taste test burger night.)
Blueberries - 125g per punnet , 2 for $5 - $5 (on sale)
Genoese fresh basil pest, 350g - $13.09
White flesh nectarines - .416kg @ $5.99/kg - $2.49
Ansell Silverlined Gloves - $2.49
Ritz crackers - 300 sleeves, 300g - $3.09
Garlic powder, 40g - $1.99 (on sale)
Loose garlic - .086/kg @ $29.99/kg - $2.58
Copper Kettle BBQ chips, 150g - $2.99 (on sale)
The pros of the Lunn Ave. New Market are the wider aisles and general layout. I also loved seeing all of the fresh cut flowers and bouquets at the entrance. The selection of goods was about the same as the Eastridge New World where I normally shop, but I was very disappointed with the sad and limited fish options and lack of a pineapple cutting machine. I was also surprised to find very little in the way of organic milk. I’m not sure if that’s an ongoing issue or today only, but it made me nervous that they might run out very soon. I would not hesitate returning to this store if I was in the neighbourhood and didn’t need to pick up any fish.
