Personal Maintenance Providers
One often overlooked trouble with moving is finding what I call “Personal Maintenance Providers” - aka professionals who help me look and feel my best. No one wants a bad haircut, a sadistic dentist, or a sub-par manicure. If you happen to be moving to Auckland, and more specifically to the Eastern Bays, this list will help you locate some quality service providers and make that transition a little bit easier.
Aesthetician & Esthetician - For both facials and occasional fine tuning of some lines and wrinkles, I go to Palm Clinic in Remuera. I was surprised when I tried facials elsewhere that didn’t do extractions, and honestly that’s the one thing I look for in a facial. I’m perfectly capable of slathering serums, lotions, and moisturizer on myself, but I can’t do the extractions. Also, I indulge in a little bit of Botox. They do a fantastic job, and I appreciate their conservative approach. I don’t look like a frozen person.
Chiropractor - For alignment issues, I like Think Chiropractic. I always walk out a little straighter and feeling better. In the same house - but not technically part of Think - you can find Lily Zhang. When I needed some serious muscle work done, she gave me the most intense, deep tissue work ever. It hurt so bad, and afterwards I felt so. much. better.
Dentist - My whole family goes to The Tooth Company just down the road from Think. The office is modern and pleasant to visit. The staff is kind, and they love North American teeth.
GP - Our family uses Saint Heliers Medical Centre. Appointments are always available, and I’ve never had to wait long once I’m there.
Hair - My husband found Anthony Bayer in Ponsonby and I followed suit. We both adore him and think he is incredibly talented and has a real knack for colour.
Nails - For a quick-and-easy/no-fuss manicure or pedicure, Perfection Nails & Spa in St. Heliers is my go-to spot. They can quickly do shellac, dip, or regular colour, but this is not exactly a spa-like experience.
Osteopath - For a body tune-up and help with pain, I like Sarah-Jane at Living Osteopathy. Fun fact: my first experience with ACC was with Sarah-Jane after i suffered a shoulder injury in yoga. My instructor recommended her, and she was wonderful to work with.
