Grocery Haul #9
This is the (first and hopefully last) Quarantine Edition of my Grocery Haul series. I’m trying to limit my grocery shopping to once per week, so this is a much larger list than normal. Also, no snazzy picture this time because I felt my cold goods were out of refrigeration too long with the elaborate cleaning process I go through once I get home. It’s definitely a new shopping experience.
The grocery store lines are longer than usual as the stores continue to improve their shopping flows. Most people are already shopping with masks and gloves. Some people are better at practicing social distancing than others. The stores have put up elaborate sneeze guards and tape lines on the floors to keep shoppers away from staff and from each other. While waiting in line to enter the store, shoppers have plenty of time to review the list of limited items, though even some of the limited items are completely out of stock. (Here’s looking at you, Flour.) Other differences include the fish is now all pre-portioned and already packed up, fewer grocery specials, and lots of missing branded products. So here’s what it looks like to try to shop for a week in quarantine mode:

All of these prices are in New Zealand dollars. With the current exchange rate of .59 NZD to 1 USD, my NZ$370.90 is about US$218.83. I don’t feel like a skimped or held back on purchasing items I like, and I included fun treats, like delicious Kiwi-made ice cream, croissants, locally made cheese, and imported beer.
My fingers are crossed that this will pass quickly and we’ll be back to some semblance of normalcy - less the international travel - soon.
